PLEASE HELP US BUILD OUR OWN RESCUE CENTRE

Rotherham Dog Rescue was founded seven years ago, to help stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs in the area with a donation of just three hundred pounds.  With that first donation Rotherham Dog Rescue rented its first kennel and saved its first dog.

From those beginnings the charity has now grown into a well respected charity, rescuing and re-homing over 200 dogs per year within the immediate area and beyond. The trustees and volunteers are all passionate about dogs and try very hard to compensate for the appalling treatment that many have been subjected to. It is common knowledge that South Yorkshire has a very poor record with regard to treatment of animals and dogs feature high on the cruelty front. Another sad fact is that elderly dogs are often abused and cast aside once they become ill or in need of veterinary treatment. Rotherham Dog Rescue tries to help these dogs by offering a long term fostering scheme. This scheme enables people to have the companionship of a more settled elderly dog and not have to worry about veterinary fees.  Rotherham Dog Rescue takes care of these fees.

We have a great team of volunteers who work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of dogs in our area and beyond and RDR can offer so much but is restricted in the fact that rented kennels do not give the opportunity to use all these facilities to the full. Renting kennels is expensive and that is all we have – kennels. We need a dedicated centre offering re-homing rehabilitation and education.

With your help we can make this dream come true.  We have now launched a one million pounds appeal to raise money to build our own centre.  This will help the poor underprivileged dogs who have so little and desperately need help.  If you would like to help Rotherham Dog Rescue achieve this goal, please send any donations to:

Rotherham Dog Rescue held their first annual Charity Spring Ball on Saturday 1 March 2008 at the Carlton Park Hotel, Moorgate, Rotherham.  It was a great success and £4,000 was raised towards our Rescue Centre Appeal.  Our celebrity guests were, Pollyanna Pickering, the celebrated international animal artist, Jan Fennell, "The Dog Listener" and Catherine King, author of Women of Iron and Silk and Steel.  It was a wonderful evening with dancing to Past Masters playing fifties, sixties and seventies hits.  Our pre-dinner pianist was Jane Orsborn from Wickersley.  The speaker for the evening was Pollyanna Pickering and Pollyanna also donated one of her beautiful paintings for the charity auction.  You will see from the photographs that Jan Fennell successfully bid for the painting as the photo shows Pollyanna and Jan holding the painting of the West Highland White Terrier.  We are holding our second charity ball on Saturday 21 March 2009 at the Carlton Park Hotel once again.  Make a note of the date and just let us know if you are interested in attending.

Jan Fennell was the winning bidder for the original painting Pollyanna so kindly donated to our auction
