About us: Please note, this is the official web site for Rotherham Dog Rescue.
Rotherham has an excellent and efficient Dog Warden service
and stray dogs are dealt with humanely if they are found
wandering the streets. In the late 1990’s things
were becoming difficult as the council’s contract
for stray dogs was situated in Doncaster. Not many
people realised that once their dog was picked up it would
then be taken out of Rotherham. Once in the pound, the dog was given 7 days for their
owner to reclaim them. If they were not re-claimed then
they either had to be passed on to a “rescue” or
sadly destroyed.
Unfortunately, at that time, there were
few rescues that would “entertain” the dogs
from the pound.
Two people from Rotherham, Sue Pearson and Jill Dobson
found out about the dogs’ plight and decided to
form a new rescue – ROTHERHAM DOG RESCUE. Sue received
a donation of £350 from her cousin in London and
she put it to help save the dogs whose lives were at
risk. One kennel was found at Wath and the first dog “MAX” was
taken out of the pound.
Since that time, Rotherham Dog Rescue has grown into an efficient and
well-respected rescue. The pound at Doncaster is now under new ownership and the
new owners, dog lovers themselves, work with rescues to save as many dogs as
possible. Unfortunately the need in this area is great and continues to be so.
In many cases dogs are not given the respect they deserve and are treated like
possessions to buy, sell or give away at their owners discretion. They all
deserve to be given a second chance !
We do receive calls from time to time from owners wanting to rehome their dogs because of behavioural problems.
These problems are sometimes easy to overcome with a little help and guidance. Before giving up on your dog why not call Lisa our Canine Consultant. Contact details can be found on our links section. Web Site
